Dear donors and supporters,
It has been an eventful start to the fall semester. I was very pleased and grateful to see some of you at President Gutierrez’s welcome barbecue on September 23rd. Guests included students, faculty, staff, and friends of the college.
If you have not met President Gutierrez, we will host more meet-and-greets throughout the academic year and would love for you to join us. He wants to make sure to meet as many members of the Hartnell community as possible.
I am happy to announce that the Athletics Hall of Fame will be celebrating its ninth year on October 22, 2022! The story below will give you a preview of the inductees and what to expect at the event.
“To all the new members of the Hartnell College Athletics Hall of Fame, we say, ‘Well done!’” said Superintendent/President, Michael Gutierrez. “Your perseverance and dedication to your sport, your teams, and the student body will live forever in the halls of Hartnell College.”
This is an all-day celebration with multiple locations involved. I want to thank our Panther Athletics Council, Hall of Fame Committee, and all of our sponsors for making this day special for our inductees and their families.
Be well!

ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Israel Cisneros is proud to be an inductee
When Hartnell alumnus Israel Cisneros got the call that he would be one of the inductees into the 2022 Athletics Hall of Fame, he could not believe it.
“It was a soccer program in development back then,” he said. “We were not known for soccer for sure.”
Cisneros graduated from Watsonville High School in 2005 and was persuaded by Hartnell’s new Assistant Soccer Coach, Daniel Ortega to join the Hartnell team. “Everyone else went to Cabrillo,” he added.
Israel has played soccer since 7th grade and has made the sport part of his life. He attended Hartnell from 2005 to 2007, earning All-American status in the sport. At Hartnell, he majored in criminal justice, then transferred to San Francisco State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree.
“I had a great experience at Hartnell,” he said. “I played goalie and had my own coach, which made a huge difference in my game.”
“The coaching staff made me the person that I am today,” he said. “I am in a good place – what they teach you does not only apply to soccer but to how we live our lives.”
He added that he is grateful to have been pushed to the limits, but most importantly, that it was instilled into him to be a good person. “This is what I strive to teach my children,” he said.
The Ninth Annual Athletics Hall of Fame is on Saturday, October 22, 2022. The celebration will start with a lunch and ceremony on Main Campus, then move to Rabobank Stadium for a tailgate party, followed by a football game – Hartnell vs. Monterey Peninsula College, where our inductees will be recognized during halftime.
Israel stays in touch with now Head Soccer Coach, Daniel Ortega, and visits with the new student-athletes often to encourage them.
He is proud of how the soccer team has evolved. “We are winning championships now,” he said.
Israel lives with his wife Amy, son (4), and daughter (2) in Las Lomas. They love the outdoors and he still plays soccer for fun. He looks forward to teaching his children the sport.
On behalf of the Hartnell College Foundation, CONGRATULATIONS Israel, and all the 2022 inductees! We look forward to celebrating with you on Oct. 22nd! For more information about the inductees and to purchase your tickets to this special day, go to https://hartnellfoundation.
YOU HAVE OPTIONS
End-of-Year Giving
If you are like many of us, you are looking to save money on this year’s taxes. There are ways to make a year-end gift, other than a cash gift, and still enjoy valuable tax benefits. Here are just a few of the options, you might want to consider for your end-of-year planning:
- GIFT OF YOUR PROPERTY
Do you have CDs, stocks, or bonds that are producing little or no return? Why not make a gift of these low-performing assets to us, and receive a charitable deduction? You can also give your real estate, art, or other property, and benefit from a deduction.
- GIFT OF YOUR PROPERTY FOR INCOME
If you are looking for income in the future, why not make a gift of property to fund a charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust? Your property can be sold tax-free, and you may receive income for the rest of your life. With a charitable gift annuity, this income is fixed so there is the possibility that some of your payment will be tax-free.
- FUTURE PROPERTY GIFT
Did you know there are gifts everyone can make to benefit from charitable giving? If you don’t want to give your stock or real estate today, you can still enjoy your property during your lifetime while making a gift to us through your will or trust. A bequest of your property will provide your estate with an estate tax charitable deduction, which means the money saved can go to your loved ones.
To learn more about these options for end-of-year gifts, or to view an illustration of the benefits of making a gift of your property, please contact Director of Philanthropy, Kristine Edmunds at (831) 755-6903 or kedmunds@hartnell.edu. We look forward to helping you meet your year-end goals!
